Micro System Design was started in 1989 by Pete Sciacchetano to help various businesses operate more effectively with custom software. We developed a variety of solutions including touch screen point-of-sale, barcode inventory control, telephony applications, and large-scale mission critical database applications. While developing solutions for one of the largest oil and gas corporations, I started asking myself "why am I really doing this?" Yes, I love writing software, but in the long run, what difference am I making?
While God was dealing with me about this, He was also preparing a new path for me. In 1997, I was contacted by Bethany World Prayer Center, one of the largest small group churches in America, about developing a solution for them. They had been struggling with the burden of keeping track of thousands of small group members on a weekly basis. Many of the church management systems had some basic "group" functionality, but nothing near what they really needed to manage all aspects of their small group church. There was a great need for church management software specifically designed for churches with small groups.
I realized this is exactly the kind of work I was created to do. Helping churches become more effective. I can use my gifts and passions to create solutions that ultimately help produce eternal value.
In his book "Good to Great", Jim Collins talks about great companies that are built around the concept of "the intersection of the three circles"
What you are deeply passionate about
We love technology. I know, I probably shouldn't say we love a thing, but we are really passionate about technology and using it to help people. We're also passionate about helping to build God's Kingdom, and I believe the best way for us to do that is by using technology to help the local church reach more people more effectively. The local church is the best way to minister to people - to see them planted, nourished, and to grow. Our desire is to help churches do that better. Our passion for hardware, software, gadgets and more helps us see more effective ways of reaching people for the Kingdom.
What you can be the best in the world at
I believe that our experience working with so many small group churches for so many years enables us to provide the best solution for churches with small groups. I also think that our core values help remind us that "the best" not only means a great solution, but also great service. We always strive to give better-than-expected support. The most common phrase you will hear is "We can do that for you!"
What you can be profitable at
Micro System Design is a privately held company. We don't have outside investors whose only concern is to see a financial return. Our success is measured by the number of churches we are able to help while remaining profitable. Profitability allows us to continue, and to improve our effectiveness at fulfilling our mission. It also allows us to help finance the Kingdom through our contributions to our local church and missionaries.
Excellerate is at the center of those three circles. We have more than 1600 customers of all sizes from churches just getting started, to multi-campus churches with over 50,000 member records. Thanks to all of you who have allowed us to be a part of your success.
